Confusion on price
Because no publicity had been given to the new price of a litre of petrol there was some confusion when service stations altered the settings on their pumps yesterday morning. The new price, reported yesterday by the Press Association.), is 12.3 c a litre for standard grade and 13c for super grade. Mr M. A. Mclvor. the chairman of the service station division of the Retail Motor Trade Association (Canterbury branch) said he had received 15 to 20 telephone requests from service station proprietors for the price of a hire of petrol. The announcement by the Government on Thursday referred to the price of a gallon. Mr Mclvor said he worked out the price, using a calculator. and the price was con firmed later in the morning in a news broadcast. It was a fairly simple job to reset the petrol pumps so that the new price of a litre was shown, although the job took some time, he said.
