WAIKATO CLEAR Girls tennis title certain
(N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON. Waikato has already won the Howe Shield with one round still to play in the Rothmans Howe and Slazenger shields under-19 interprovincial tennis tournament at Hamilton.
The Waikato team—Pauline Elliott, Sher}’ Tebbutt and Helen Harris—is unbeaten, two wins clear of Canterbury, Taranaki and Auckland No. 1.
The Slazenger Shield final round today should be exciting with North Shore one win behind the unbeaten team, Wellington. Both teams have hard matches, against Auckland and Hutt Valley, respectively. Results yesterday:—
Howe Shield.—Round six: Waikato 2, Canterbury 1: Auckland No. 1 3, North Shore 0; Auckland No. 22. Wellington 1; Taranaki 2. Southland 1. Slazenger Shield.—Round 6; North Shore 2. Auckland 1; Wellington 2, Hutt Valley 1; Canterbury 2, Otago 1; Waikato No. 1 3, Waikato No. 2 0.
