Fire brigade centenary

The Rangiora Volunteer Fire Brigade will celebrate its centenary from May 17 to 19. This was decided at a meeting of the brigade this week, when every member of the brigade was appointed to one of three committees to plan for the celebrations. The brigade’s general committee will also be the coordinating committee. The celebrations will begin with a smoke concert on the Friday evening. A procession of floats by local organisations, and with vintage fire appliances, will be held early on the Saturday afternoon; a banquet and a ball will be held on the Saturday evening; and a church service will be held on the Sunday. The brigade hopes to compile a history of its activities but had so far failed to locate any of its records before 1900, said the secretary (Mr B. R. Hassall).
