VISIT TO CHINA

N.Z. table tennis tour

(N.Z, Press Association)

WELLINGTON.

A table tennis team of seven players—four men and three women—and a manager, will visit the People's Republic of China for two weeks, leaving New Zealand about March 8. The chairman of the New Zealand Table Tennis Association (Mr A. R. Harding) said yesterday that the visit would precede New Zealand’s participation in the second Asian championships in Yokohama, Japan, for April 2 to 15. The team will be selected by January 25, and will assemble in Auckland between February 16 and 20 for training and outfitting.

Two of the top four women players, Misses A. Stonestreet the national champion, and C. Fraser, both of Auckland, are in Britain and will represent New Zealand in the English championship from February 27 to March 2.

They have indicated they will be available if required in Japan, and it is assumed they would be available for China, too. Miss Fraser recently defeated Miss Stonestreet in the final of the Welsh tournament at Cardiff.
