SHOOTING MEDALS

Englishmen hopeful

The only previous occasion rifle shotihg was held at the Commonwealth Games—in Jamaica, in 1966—-England won two of the five gold medals and one silver medal. The manager of this year's English shooting team (Mr J. Hunter) said yesterday that he was hopeful his team would perform at least as well.

However, he would not say in which of the shooting events he expected the best results. Both gold medals in 1966 were won in pistol competitions, although smallbore shooting was predominant. in England.

Mr Hunter said he would rather not, comment on the Games organising committee’s decision to ban rifles from the village.
