AUCKLAND, January 15. A motorist travelling at j 102 miles an hour — more ;than twice the legal limit — on the Auckland Northi Western Motorway was one of 3164 driving offences reI ported by Ministry of Transport traffic officers during the 10-day Christmas holiday period. Of the offences reported, I 1779 might have caused accidents, according to statistics released by the head of the Road Traffic Division of the Ministry (Mr M. C. Bridge) 1 today. Mr Bridge said he did not yet plan to increase enforce-j ment on open roads and motorways where the “thrifty 50” limit applied. Although most drivers j were still behaving well, 184; traffic offence notices were l issued for breaches of the! 50 m.p.h. limit.
