SHIPPING NEWS Sea room needed for Britannia

The Lyttelton Harbourmaster (Captain D. Holden), who will board the Britannia at 8.20 a.m, at the heads tomorrow, as a gesture of courtesy, and by invitation (Royal Naval vessels do their own pilotage), has a request to owners of small craft. He asks that pleasure craft, and others, keep well clear of the incoming Britannia, which is a sizeable vessel, and needs ample sea room to manoeuvre. She will berth at No. 4 West Wharf at 9 a.m. ,-k * * Seaweed in abundance was apparent in Lyttelton Harbour vesterday. This has been brought about by easterly conditions. Small craft of the Lyttelton Harbour Board were cleaning up this flotsam. # A useful maritime bulletin geared to Lyttelton’s needs during the Commonwealth Games has been prepared by the Lyttelton Harbour Board traffic manager (Mr J. B. Graham). It gives movements of naval vessels, cruise liners, other merchant service vessels and routine callers (as far as feasible), during this period. It records details of Royal “comings and goings,” cruise liner passenger movements, traffic control, security, the Wales Auckland to Lyttelton yacht race, the Tug Lyttelton Preservation Society's plans, receptions, transport and relevant data. Four overseas vessels were handling cargo at Lyttelton yesterday. They were the Medic (British), Bayernstein (German), and two Japanese vessels, the Japan Roble (Japan Lines) and the Tacoma Maru (Mitsui-O.S.K. Lines).
