“The Press’’ Special Service Executive« ■ which suffered a set-back ’ with a leg injury in the last week, has been scratched from the Wellington Cup.

An up-and-coming . Takanini stayer of the summer, with three wins on end before ills unlucky defeat at Ellerslie on January 2. Executive has had a

filled foreleg lately, caused, it is thought, by his giving it a knock either while working or playing in his paddock. His trainer, Mrs P. S. O'Brien, who is also a partner in the ownership with Mrs E. E. Rabbidge, said that she had had no option but to ease the horse out of training. She was hopeful that Executive would be all right again for an autumn preparation. Three other Takanini acceptors for the first day of the Wellington Cup meeting, Mogador. Shy Ways and Jandell, began their trip south yesterday afternoon, bound for Levin, where they will continue their training for Saturday. All three horses used the plough for pacework yesterday morning. Mogador. a Wellington Cup prospect, getting through two rounds and speeding up to a brisk pace over the last 600 metres. Prepak. which will be flown to i Wellington with her stablemate, Blue Blood, on Thursday after- I noon, also worked on the; plough, rounding off 1400 metres' or so with a quicker last 800 metres in 57 2-ssec. — MR J. P. LEE The report, printed on | Monday, of the death in Christchurch of Mr J. P. Lee, formerly of Reefton, should have said that Mr Lee is survived by his wife, two sons, aged 15 and 13, and daughter, aged 10. An error in our report is regretted.
