Mining issues ease on active Aust, markets

Prices were mixed in active trading on Australian exchanges yesterday. Mining and oil issues eased but industrial shares were mostly firm.

B.H.P. shed 55c at 960 c after peaking at 1010 c, its highest point in the past 11 months.

Hooker. Jennings, and A. were among the few stocks to ease. CSR rose 10c to 445 c, as did Thiess at 180 c. E.Z.I. improved 5c at 360 c. Comalco was 7c up at 242 c, the B. added 4c at 804 c, and Australian Guarantee climbed 5c to 200 c, Retailers were also well maintained.

In the mining sector, PekoWallsend shed 10c at 630 c, Bougainville dropped 6c at 210 c and C.R.A. loc at 315 c. M.I.M. was 10c weaker at 235 c but Poseidon went to 610 c. 10c firmer. Consolidated Goldfields rose 5c to 325 c. Woodside Burmah retreated 9c to 182 c and Santos was cut back 5c at 115 c, Ampol Ex lost 3c at 125 c but Weeks and Magellan were steady.
