Cleaning up at mill

(From Our Own Reporter) WESTPORT, Jan. 14. Employees of the Tauranga Bay Timber Company are expected to resume work later this'week after cleaning up at the mill near Westport after the collapse on Friday of the Fairmaid Dam, its water supply source. The dam was built about ' 100 years ago for gold-sluic-ing operations in the Addi.sons Field.

. When it was obvious that the dam, covering an area of about five acres, was weakening, precautions were taken by the mil) staff to protect the property — one of the most modern on the West Coast — and the machinery was little affected. The main flow of water, thousands of gallons, was diverted from the mill site through a side gully but a large amount of rubble collected around the buildings. The company will use an alternative water supply to maintain its production.
