Factory fire

An explosion injured a (workman and started a fire lin a factory in Henry Street, ■Woolston, owned by Lomak Furniture Company, Ltd, 'about 11 a.tn. yesterday. The workman, James Long, of 54 Stourbridge Street, was occupied in a polishing bay at the rear of the factory when the explosion set fire to his trousers.

A fire extinguisher was used by another worker to put out the flames, and Mr Long was taken to Christchurch Hospital with burns to both his legs. His condition last evening was comfortable.

The fire spread through the roof and side windows to the office block, causing about $15,000 damage. About a quarter of the factory was gutted.
