Games funds still rising

Although the Games appeal, which has been held throughout New Zealand, might not reach its target of $700,000, the total will be boosted considerably by the many supplementary fundraising projects.

The chairman of the finance committee (Mr M. F. Hunter) said last evening that it seemed as if the main Games appeal might fall a little short of the 3700,000 figure. “Just how much short it is difficult to tell at this stage,” he said. “I am waiting for the arithmetic to be finally completed and the final figure will probably be known at the end of the week.”

The Auckland people have worked very hard considering that their appeal . started from scratch about eight months ago,” he said. "Happily we are able to . take up the slack from any I shortfalls on the appeal by , other fund-raising projects ; such as the mystery enve- ’ lopes and a series of major . raffles,” Mr Hunter said.

He reported that the Games dollar sales were still progressing reasonably well. “We have extended the I number of outlets for sales, in Christchurch, in particu-' lar, and are undertaking ’ more advertising to bring it more to the attention of the! public.” he said. “The sales are running a shade ahead of our progressive target although we still, have a lot to sell.” Mr’ Hunter said.
