CV Z. Press Assn —Copyright > YOKOHAMA (Japan), Jan. 14. A rare douc langur monkey, one of only about 50 in the world, was' born in captivity on January 3, the Nogeyama Zoo reported today. It was the first of its breed to be born in captivity in Japan—which now has four ot the monkeys—and the sixth in the world. Zoo officials say that they still have not determined the baby’s sex, because it becomes very nervous when human beings approach. It is eight inches tall, and weighs 21 ounces. The mother was brought to the zoo two years ago from Laos. Douc langur monkeys live m Indo-China, and have been designated for protection by the International Union for; the Conservation of Nature! and Natural Resources.
