Aust, woman sent home

AUCKLAND. Jan. 3.
An Australian woman who arrived at Auckland Airport' yesterday for three weeks i holiday with two grams of. cannabis in her luggage was ordered to be put on this afternoon’s flight to Australia. Lynn Margaret Ryan, aged 22, a typist, admitted importing the cannabis into New Zealand when she appeared today before Mr B. H, Blackwood, S.M. He told her that importing drugs carried a very heavy penalty and she would have been imprisoned if her return ticket and an aircraft seat had not been available.
Ryan was fined $lOO with 21 days prison in default of immediate payment. Sergeant A, B. Edwards said Ryan’s luggage was searched at the airport yesterday afternoon and the cannabis was found in a plastic bag. She told the police that it was given to her by ai young man she met just before leaving Australia. He told her she could smoke it in the New Zealand countryside.
