'B.E.M.’ TO GREEK
Award 30 years after W.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. An unusual award in the New Year’s Honours List is {an “Honorary British Empire Medal” to a citizen of the ■island of Skiathos, Greece. The award, to Mrs Syraino Kaliarou, is for services to New Zealand in aiding the escape from Greece of many Allied soldiers in World War 11. According to a Government (House spokesman, such an. {award in an honours list is! “fairly rare.” The award had' to be cleared with the Greek! 1 Government.
