Accommodation at premium
In the last week the Greymouth i motor camp has handled more than 1000 visitors a night and if the 20 new cabin ' at present under construction i had been completed, they would be filled immediately, according to the manager of the camp (Mr E. Hardy).
There was always a , demand for cabins, he (said, and those at the camp had been filled every night for the last month. The new cabins and ablutions block were supposed to have been finished by Christmas, but because of a shortage of materials they will not be finished until the end of this month. Mr Hardy, however,' thought that the number of I tourists was lower than last' year. “Maybe it’s the petrol shortage.’’ Motel accommodation in Greymouth was fully booked (yesterday, and hotel accommodation was reported extremely limited. The problem with the arrival in town of people attending the Greymouth Trotting Club’s meeting this evening. Hotels and motels through- ■ out south Westland were also : reported to be heavily booked, and camping grounds' fully taxed.
