Howard Hunt has been freed ; from prison, pending the outcome of his appeal against conviction in the Watergate affair. A former White House aide, Hunt was serving a sentence of 10 months and five days for his part in the break-in at the Democratic Party's national headquarters. Bernard Barker, the “foreman" of the burglary team, is due also to be released from prison later today. On Friday, the Court of Appeals ordered both Hunt and Barker released pending the outcome of their appeals Both men have cited familv reasons: Hunt's wife was killed in an airliner crash in Chicago in December. 1972. and his four children have been living in a suburb of Washington. Barker has lost his business, and his onlx daughter has been seeking his release. Of the 19 White House aides, corporation executives, and others who have pleaded guilty, or have been found guilty in connection with 1972 election campaign violations, only five remain in prison. Three of these are Citban-Americans.
