Games team with an average age of 24
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON. The average age of the New Zealand team of 145 to compete in the Commonwealth Games next month is 24. The oldest member of the team is 60 (61 by Games time) and the youngest 13. Of the nine sports, bowls has the highest average age, 45, boosted by the singles player, P. E. B. Jones, who turns 61 on Christmas Eve. The shooting team, is close
; behind, with an average age of 41. J. Irvine (Hamilton), aged 54, is the oldest member of that team. The 20-member swimming contingent has the youngest average age, 17J, with Alison Calder (Otago) and Monique: Rodahl (Auckland), at 13, the youngest. Average ages of the other sections are: Track and field, 21Badminton, 26; boxing, 19); cycling, 22; weight-lifting, 26|; wrestling, 23 J.
