Parker gets better news; may now play

*/ JL (N.Z.P..4. Stall Correspondent) CANBERRA. The New Zealand opening batsman. J. M. Parker, may be able to play after all in the first-class match against South Australia, which starts in Adelaide tomorrow.

This was the encouraging news yesterday about Parker after he had visited a specialist for another examination of his injured chest.

Parker had been told by a doctor on Tuesday that he had cracked the third rib cartilage in his left chest, but a specialist, after studying X-rays yesterday, found that the cartilage is torn but not cracked. WADSWORTH DOUBTFUL The specialist suggested that Parker should rest, but the manager of the New Zealand team, Mr R. A. Vance, said yesterday afternoon that there was a possibility now that Parker would play in Adelaide. Yesterday’s news about K. J. Wadsworth, the wicketkeeper, who had his first innings of the tour against Australian Capital Territory yesterday, was less promising.

Although it was only a brief knock; Wadsworth was in some distress after it, and it is very doubtful whether he is yet fit enough to take on four consecutive days of cricket. 78-RL’N VICTORY

The New Zealanders cruised to an effortless 78-run victory over the Australian Capital Territory in a 40-over match yesterday. After being put in to bat, New Zealand scored 213 runs in 163 minutes before it was all out after 38.2 of its 40 overs.
