Onset put down
Onset. which broke down badly while being exercised at Trcntham last month, was destroyed earlier this week. The five-year-old gelded son of Oncidium and Careen was examined bv an Upper Hutt veterinarian after the accident. Hr suspected that the horse had fractured the sesamoid bones in his off-hind leg but could not confirm this without an X-rnv. Onset was returned to D. J. Thlstoll's Itlccarton stable where an X-ray confirmed that the sesamoid bones had been shat- '»!•<! and that there was no hope of saving him. Onset, which ended his four year old racing with victories In the main handicaps at the Nelson Jockey Clubs meeting In May. won seven races and 110.220 In stakes for his Blenheim owners, the late Mr J. C. living and bis wife.
