Police warning on King’s Cross

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, November 14. The New South Wales Commissioner of Police (Mr Norman Hanson) has said that the police might “close down” King’s Cross, Sydney’s nightclub district.

His warning came after the new Minister of Police (Mr Maddison) asked him to submit a report on the assault of Mr Colin Voight, aged 47, in the area last Monday. "We will not tolerate bashings, muggings, or any other form of illegal activity at King’s Cross,” Mr Hanson said. . “For a start, we’ll flood the place with 21 Division,” he said. Twenty-one Division

is a special police squad trained for riot control. Mr Voight, in hospital, has said that a police detective had offered him no assistance after he was attacked, and that 21 Division were “tardy” in coming to investigate the first of two other assaults he suffered last Friday evening. He is a union organiser from Actors’ Equity.
