Board suspends two officials

(New Zealand Press Association) WHANGAREI, November 12. The Northland Harbour Board today suspended on full pay its general manager, Mr D. B. Cunneen, and its internal auditor, Mr A. G. McHugh.

It did this at a special meeting of the board, which was held in committee. No reasons have been given for the suspensions. The board also decided at the meeting, according to a statement issued by its deputy chairman (Mr A. W. Leslie) that it would plead not guilty to charges which are pending in the courts. These charges relate to allegations by the police that

at various times in 1970 and 1971 the board made misleading statements to the Reserve Bank, and have been adjourned in the Whangarei Magistrate’s Court until December 10. The board chairman, Mr R. K. Trimmer, and two staff members, an engineer, Mr J. S. Mason, and the director of planning, Mr J. A. Lyall, also face charges relating to board business. The two men suspended by the board today have not been named in any informations laid in the Whangarei Court.
