Purdie picked at Hastings

"The Press’* Special Service HASTINGS. Purdie’s form is always hard to follow but with a reasonable run he should win the Teachers Whisky Handicap, first leg of the T.A.B. double at the Napier Park meeting at Hastings today. Purdie finished second to Suizu, one of the early favourites for the N.Z. Cup on Saturday, on the first day at the recent Wellington meeting and then finished an unlucky sixth on the second day. The equal top-weight with Purdie, Oncide has had only one race this season and is sure to be improved. Haneda ran an impressive fifth at his last start at Te Rapa and might be the best of the others. The top-weight, El Shaddai,

looks weighted to win the second leg, the Glenvale Stakes. He has won three of his last four starts, his failure being in the Wellington Guineas on the first day of the Wellington meeting. Just Dianna, which like El Shaddai has an awkward barrier draw, and Sugar Talk, which is trained on the course, look the best of the others.
