Watallan is fit for Cup
"The Press” Special Service Watallan. Dandyman and Dmitri were three of the most impressive trialists at Wingatui yesterday when candidates for the New Zealand Cup meeting were favoured by excellent conditions and fast going. Watallan had the edge on Town Major at the end of 1200 m in Imin 16 3-ssec, the last 600 m in 39 3-ssec. Lady Mellay, a candidate for the Stewards’ Handicap, and Funny Way were accompanied by Classic Sun when they ran a fast 1000 m in Imin 3 2-ssec, the last 600 m in 39sec. Dmitri appeared to be galloping easily alongside Gay Leader over 800 m in 50 4-ssec. Lucy Mellay, Queen’s Keeper and Rayallan were together in 49 3-ssec. the last 600 m in 47 2-ssec.
