Forecasts: CANTERBURY. — North-westerlies decreasing ; fresh cool south - easterlies spreading from the south this afternoon, with a period of rain. MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS. — Strong north - west winds, gales in Cook Strait. Cloudy, with some drizzle patches at first; rain developing this afternoon; moderate temperatures. CENTRAL MARLBOROUGH, NELSON. — Fresh to strong northerly winds; rain in Nelson; some scattered falls spreading to Marlborough later; mild. BULLER AND WESTLAND. — Fresh north to north - east winds; rain for much, of the day, some fair periods developing later; moderate temperatures.
