Ford jobs threatened
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Oct. 12. A threat hangs over the jobs of 1000 workers at the Ford Motor Company plant in Lower Hutt as the stoppage by body builders enters its second week. Production at the plant has been halted this week and company officials today did not deny that there was a possibility of staff being laid off unless there was a settlement soon. About 150 employees in thel metal finishing and bodyshop departments downed tools a week ago. They are claiming that the company is not fol-1 lowing the terms of an agree-1 ment on payment of margins I for skill and experience. 1 Negotiations between Fords j and the Coach Workers i Union, with the Labour De-; partment in attendance, ap-1 pear to have deadlocked.
