Bomb raw material?
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) STOCKHOLM, Oct. 12. Israel possessed 751 b of plutonium, enough for the construction of between five and 10 nuclear bombs, a spokesman for the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute said today. The plutonium was produced by a French-built reactor at Dimona in the Negev Desert, in a secret project, said the spokesman, Mr Signe Landgren.
In 1968. the then Israeli Prime Minister (Mr Eshkol) was quoted as saying, “We know how to make the bomb.”
The 751 b of plutonium was produced between 1964 and 1969. and supplies might be much larger today, Mr Landgren said. Technically, it was no problem to use these quantities for the construction of the bombs, he added.
