Amnesty for hijackers

President Marcos of the Philippines granted amnesty today to three young Filipinos who hijacked a Philippines Air Lines airliner yesterday and flew it to Hong Kong and back to Manila. The President of the airline (Mr Benigno Tuda), who was held hostage in the hijacked BACIU, said that Mr Marcos granted the amnesty after hearing the complaints of the three young men earlier today at a meeting with them in his Presidential Palace. Mr Tuda said the three youths complained to the President about w’hat he called “certain abuses of the military” in their home town of Kidapawan, in Mindanao, the southern island where the armed forces are fighting Moslems. But he said that they were not Moslems. He identified them as Roger Riga, aged 21, whom he called the leader. Armando Naval, aged 21, and Leo Basilio Montojo, aged 19. all students.
