JUNIOR FENCING

By winning both the girls junior and intermediate sections of the Canterbury Provincial Fencing Council’s tournament at the week-end, J. Lindsay progressed to senior status.

A fifth-form pupil at Christchurch Girls’ High School, Miss Lindsay fenced very well to win both sections.

Good entries were received for the tournament, which was held at Papanui High School. Abbreviations used in the following results are: Christchurch Girls’ High School (C.G.H.S.), Hillmorton High School (H.H.S.), Christchurch Boys’ High School (C.8.H.5.) Burnside High School (8.H.5.).

Protest.— Beef workers at the Waitara freezing works have returned to work after their walk-off in protest against the one-day suspension of a boner who took time off on Thursday afternoon to go to his hairdresser after an official complaint about the length of his hair. -(P-A.)
