Shamrock’s big win Shamrock cut into the lead of Rangers and Dunedin North End with probably the outstanding victory of the Southern League soccer championship so far this season. Away to Roslyn-Wakari, notably a difficult team to beat at home, Shamrock scored an overwhelming victory, by 5-1, and is now only one point behind the leaders and with a greatly enhanced goal average. In the only other league championship match at the week-end, Technical lost, 1-2, to Queen’s Park in Invercargill, and remained in the relegation zone. Goals

• New Brighton reserves took a two-point lead in the qualifying competition at the half-way stage with a 2-1 defeat over Halswell United. Results were: Nomads United 1, Burndale United 0; Riccarton 2, Northern Hearts 1; Halswell United 1, New Brighton reserves 2; Timaru City 3, High School Old Boys 2. Goals
