Cycling nominations

Mr D. B. Smith was nominated as manager of the Commonwealth Games cycling team, and another Canterbury man, Mr W. W. Thorpe, received two appointments, at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association in Wellington on Saturday. Mr Thorpe, the only nominee, was appointed manager of the New Zealand team for the world championships in Montreal next year, and he was also one of three coaches nominated for the Games cycling team. The others are Mr L. R. B. Mildon (Auckland). who will coach the road team, and Mr B. H. Goldsworthy (Wellington), who with Mr Thorpe will coach the track riders.

If only two coaches are approved. Mr Thorpe will miss an official Games appointment. Mr B. E. Dawe (Canterbury) was re-elected vice-president, and Mr Thorpe was re-elected a selector together with Mr C. J. Hollows (convener) and Mr J. E. Ludlam.

Mr R. H. Knight (Canterbury) was beaten in the ballots for selectors and Games coaches, and Mr Smith missed appointment as manager of the Air New Zealand team next year. The latter post-
