<From Our Own Reporter) WELLINGTON, June 15. The Water Resources Council will recommend to the Minister of Works and Development (Mr Watt) that he approve a rural water-supply scheme to serve about 40,000 acres of the Amur! County in North Canterbury, and that a $l- - subsidy be granted.

This was decided yesterday at a meeting of the council. The scheme will serve an area, mainly of sheep and cattle farming country, west and north of the Waiau township, from a well which will be sunk beside the Waiau River. Water will be stored in reservoirs before distribution.

The estimated cost of the scheme is $135,000, and the recommended subsidy is $49,500. ASHLEY SCHEME An additional subsidy of $21,000 for the Ashley County rural water supply scheme will be recommended to Mr Watt. The Water Resources Council will recommend to the Minister that he approve the scheme at a revised estimated total cost of $360,000, and grant a sl-for-s2 subsidy, totalling $120,000. This represents an additional subsidy of $21,000, needed because of increased costs. The additional subsidy will enable the scheme, covering about 85,000 acres to be i finished.
