Bus service

Sir, —Unfortunately “Satisfied” has mis-read the bus timetable. Merrin Street buses run roughly not quarter-hourly, but hourly (two-hour gap at lunchtime). The 15-20 minutes service runs from the Fendalton/Clyde Road stop, 20 minutes from us. "Satisfied” suggests the Riccarton bus—also 20 minutes walk. Therefore the only practicable service is the Creyke Road (about threequarter • hourly). This route has no Saturday and Sunday service at all. I reiterate that we need a| more frequent service using mini-buses in off-peak periods. Housewives would then use them instead of cars. Mr Pickering’s scheme for car parks at the green belts is excellent. From such parks Peter Beaven, I think, suggested a shuttle mini-bus service into the city at a low rate or even free. At present my husband cycles to work because of the inconvenience of our bus for him. This has now become hazardous. — Yours, etc., RENEE STOCKWELL.
