Rally teams named

Team entries for the Heatway Rally next month are now being announced, and the latest include a threecar team fielded by Leyland dealers, and a Holden dealers’ team from Australia. The Leyland team’s top driver will be the Scottish rally driver and former Heatway winner, A. Cowan, who will share a Mini Clubman GT with his former Heatway co-driver, J. Scott. It will' be Cowan’s third

appearance in New Zealand. The second Mini Clubman in the team will have as its crew R. Cook, of Mini motor-racing fame, and S. Horne. The third team car will be a Morris Marina TC, it’s crew Judy Hanbury and Mary Carney, former winners of the rally’s women’s prize. The Leyland Dealer Team, as it will be officially known, will be supported

by seven radio-equipped service vehicles. The New Zealand Holden Dealer Team’s entry will comprise three XUI Toranas, and the No. I driver will be Australia’s top rally driver, C. Bond. Bond has been Australian rally champion for the last two years, and won the Hardie-Ferodo 500 production saloon race. His codriver will be G. Shepheard, of Australia. The second car in the team will be driven by C. Parry, another experienced Australian, and the third will be driven by R. Emson of New Zealand. Emson was second in the 1971 Heatway Rally. The Holden team will be managed by the noted Australian Holden Team manager, H. Firth. Firth will bring his own team of Australian mechanics.
