EASIER TONE ON QUIETER NEW ZEALAND MARKET

Falls outnumbered rises by a narrower margin on quieter New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. However, the leaders were prominent among the falls. The Christchurch closing quotations were bearish with mainly lower buying quotes, where they appeared, and a majority of selling quotes.

Freightway responded to the news of the proposed issues with a jump of 43c to 350 c, ex a 5c dividend. C.F.C.A. showed another good rise after a trading gap, rising 13c to 135 c. Crothall, Deanes, and Vibrapac were among the 5c rises. C.F.M. was not traded in Christchurch and there were no closing quotes, but the shares sold 3c higher at 163 c in Auckland. New Zealand Refrigerating edged a cent higher to 138 c and Waitaki firmed the same amount to 156 c. South British fell quite

heavily, losing 12c at 453 c. I New Zealand Insurance held its gains at 370 c, but National insurance lost 5c at 645 c. F.T.C., Golden Bay and NMA-Wright Stephenson lost 2c each and Feltex was down 4c at 478 c. Northern Steel was virtually steady after adjusting for the one-for-four bonus issue the shares sold at 144 c in Auckland. Classic was down 3c in its first ex-bonus sale. The sale of Northern Steam in Auckland at 144 c on Thursday was apparently an error. The shares were traded at 153 c yesterday.
