Dissociation from anti-tour views
NELSON. Departmental representatives of the Nelson section of the Public Service Association yesterday dissociated themselves from the anti-Springbok tour views expressed by their national executive.
A spokesman for the section said that the Nelson meeting was the largest attended by departmental representatives in Nelson ■ The tour issue itself had not been discussed, he said The meeting carried the following two resolutions: "That the Nelson section of the P S.A. deplores the entry of the executive of the P S.A. into the Springbok tour issue, and publicly dissociates itself from the views it has made known. The views expressed by the executive do not in any way renresent the feelings of rank-and-file members. This section is so appalled and amazed that executive officers could be so far out of touch with the general membership that it must express its grave doubts as to their ability to continue to represent our views. This section further condemns the use of members’ funds to the extent of $250 in promoting the visit of a former South African citizen, and considers that if the executive
feels this man can contribute anything worth while, there is ample opportunity for u to do so privately without spending our funds." The second resolution is:— "That in view of the wide spread discontent among Nelson public servants regarding the published news of the executive committee, this section inimediatelv advise the Prime Minister (Mr Kirk) and the two mem bers of Parliament for the district that the P S.A execu tive was not acting on behalf of Nelson public aervanr and that like publicitv havailable to the news media " Maternity discouraged Women workers in the Philippines can now get married without fear of losing their jobs, according to a Presidential decree.
