Nixon and unions
(N.Z.P. A.-Reuter—Copyright) MIAMI (Florida), Feb. 19. President Nixon will address the leaders of America’s largest labour confederation today, to seek their support for his economic policies. It is believed that this will be the first time a Republican President has gone to an executive council meeting of the A.F.L.C. 1.0., which represents 5 million workers. The A.F.L.-C.1.0. is committed to many of the social programmes cut by the President in the 1974 Budget presented last month. Labour is expected to fight hard to preserve the housing, health, education, and employment projects, arguing that many of the cuts and spending freezes can only aggravate unemployment.
