Umpire strike denied
Reports that official umpires of the Canterbury Softball Associa-; i tion were on strike for the senior men’s A grade inter-club competition were untrue, a senior umpire, Mr J. Anderson, said last evening. i Mr Anderson said there was a drastic shortage of senior umpires at the moment. And senior women’s matches were entitled to senior umpiring, so. it was left to player-umpires to control some senior A men’s games. The draw which included player-umpires for last Saturday had been made a fortnight ago, he said.
On Saturday player-umpires officiated in all senior men’s A grade games. Players were also called on to umpire matches last Tuesday when official umpires were not available.
