America’s wholesale price index rose 1.8 per cent in De cember — the largest in crease for almost 22 years The only comparable in creases were in January 1951. when the rise was 2.f per cent, and in February 01 that year, when it was l.f per cent. The largest increase in De cember was in the cost ol farm products, which cost 6 8 per cent, the highest ga>r since March. 1947. Foot prices have risen dramatic ally in recent months, anc have resulted in calls for con trols on them. At present they are not controlled at the farm level: they were exempted from the wage-and-price controls imposed by President Nixon in November. 1971. since when the wholesale price index has risen by 6.1 per cent.
