bonus and why was none sent to the pensioner on universal superannuation? Why for some and not for others, as we all pay the high cost of just existing?—Yours, etc., LABOUR ALWAYS. December 28, 1972.

[The Minister of Social Welfare (Mr King) replies: “The Christmas bonus has been restricted to those receiving an income-tested benefit because usually they represent those most in need. The Government, however, realises that the circumstances of some superannuation beneficiaries are such that they could qualify for age benefit. These beneficiaries may wish to transfer to age benefit after December 31, 1972, and if the benefit is granted from earlier than this date the additional Christmas bonus will be paid. To qualifv for the bonus the application to change to age benefit must be lodged with the Department of Social Welfare by March 31, 1973. Those beneficiaries in doubt as to which course to take should call and discuss their position at their local Social Welfare Office.”]
