Theft time narrowed
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 10. Detectives have narrowed to five hours the time in which thieves probably took jewels worth 8100,000 from a Wellington manufacturing jeweller last weekend. The thieves may have been disturbed by the earthquake which jolted Wellington early last Saturday. Detective Senior-Sergeant B. I. S. Kimber, who is leading the investigation, said it appeared the thieves had plundered the strong room of H. H. Morris. Ltd. between 10.30 p.m. last Friday and 3.30 a.m. on Saturday. The last person in the building left at 10.30 p.m. on Friday. No suspicious activity was seen in the building before then. When the building was next checked, after the earthquake, the lift was not working. Detectives found that the lift had been purposely im-
mobilised, probably by the, thieves. The C. 1.8. is still looking for the unpainted galvanised rubbish tin which the marauders emptied and possibly used as a container for' their haul. Exhibits from the premises' have been sent to the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research. in the
, hope that more clues will be ' found.
