Fiji Govt’s veto
(N.Z. Press Assn. —CoppriphO SUVA. The Fiji Government has vetoed a proposal by the Fiji Bowling Association to send a team to the South African Open International Games later this year. The association accepted the invitation late last year, subject to Government approval. A circular to member dubs this week says that the Government told the association that it supports the United Nations resolution calling for States to encourage their sports organisations to withhold their support from sports events organised in violation of the Olympic principle. I The association said that, in view of the Government's attitude, it would "sadly” decline the South African invitation. The circular says that the Association had told the Government to no avail that it ! had received assurances from the organisers that there [Would be no discrimination, and no problem about sending Fijian and Indian players •if they were chosen.
