New test umpire

(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) LONDON. A new test umpire, Mr H. Bird, the former Yorkshire and Leicestershire batsman, has been added to the panel of English cricket umpires. He will be available for the three test matches against each of New Zealand and West Indies next season, with the umpires who have stood for the last two seasons, Messrs C. S. Elliott, A C. Fagg, A. E. G. Rhodes, T. W. Spencer and D. J. Constant For those tests it seems certain that a new rule will be applied. This allows for an extra hour’s play at the end of any of the first four days if there has been a loss during the day of an hour or more of cricket
