Solo parents

Sir,—Listening ■ yesterday morning to "Inside 72,” I was astounded to hear Mr Adams-Schneider say that the lowering of the allowable earning power of a widow was approved by the Royal Commission. How can a band of men know the plight of any solo parent—s2l a week for a widow, $ll for the first child, and $3 for the second child. How can any solo parent live on $35 a week after paying rent of, say, $lB a week? Read what Birthright had to say about this. I ask that, whatever Government gets in, the next Royal Commission should have at least three women on it, so that they can put forward the plight of a solo parent.—Yours, etc., F.C.M. November 20, 1972. [This letter was referred to the former Minister of Social Welfare (Mr Adams-Schnei-der) who has not replied.— Ed., “The Press.”]
