Boy dies in car fire

AUCKLAND, Dec. 7. A father rescued two sons from a car blaze which killed a three-year-old boy at Pukekohe yesterday. ,The dead boy was
Le Roy Matthews, of Lucky Comer, Pukekohe.
Two brothers, Paul Jodi Grey, aged three and Jeremy Daniel Grey, aged two, of Freyberg Crescent, Pukekohe were rescued by their father, Mr John Grey. The injured boys were taken to Middlemore Hospital and later transferred to the respiratory unit at Auckland Hospital. They were described as “dangerously ill” today. A Pukekohe police spokesman said Mr Grey was some distance away when passersby noticed smoke. Mr Grey rushed back to the car and pulled his sons out. The third boy was found to be dead. The car was gutted.
Fire prevention officers are investigating.
