Eggs given to Fiji
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. The Poultry Board will give 1000 dozen eggs to Fiji as relief aid. The eggs, worth about $5OO, were sent by ship from Auckland this week. Mr M. R. K. Cowdrey, the general manager of the Poultry Board, said the cost of packing materials and transport to Suva was defrayed by two Auckland firms, Egg Distributors, Ltd, and Poultrymans Co-opera-tive, Ltd.
He said 18,000 dozen eggs were exported to Fiji every month, but since poultry farms in Fiji were devastated by Hurricane Bebe last month, the board decided to give the 1000 dozen eggs. The board was also prepared to hold talks with Fijian officials to supply a considerable quantity of eggs at reduced prices, Mr Cowdrey said.
