RENNIE APPEAL
Decision is reserved fN.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. The Court of Appeal today reserved its decision on an appeal against conviction by the former New Plymouth magistrate, Donald Alexander Rennie. Rennie was convicted in the Supreme Court in Auckland on October 12 on two charges of perjury and sentenced to six months gaol. The charges were in respect of custody proceedings involving his former wife. Grounds for the appeal were misdirection of the jury by the trial judge, and inconsistency of the jury’s verdict on the two charges. The Appeal Court today comprised Mr Justice Turner (presiding), Mr Justice McCarthy, and Mr Justice Richmond.
Mr L. W. Brown Q.C. and Mr R. L. McLaren appeared for Rennie, and the SolicitorGeneral, Mr R. S. Savage Q.C., and Mr J. H. C. Larsen represented the Crown.
