$55 in fines for M.P.
(N.Z. Press Association) DUNEDIN, Dec. 7. In her rush to catch a plane to Wellington, the Labour M.P. for Dunedin North and Dunedin City Councillor, Mrs Ethel Emma McMillan, overtook a vehicle in the face Of three oncoming cars near the Faiffleld straight. Her counsel, Mr R. J. Gilbert, entered a plea of guilty in the Dunedin Magistrate’s Court this morning before Mr J. D. Murray, S.M., to charges of careless driving and exceeding 30 m.p.h. in a restricted area on October 17. She did not appear. Mrs McMillan had travelled at 50 miles an hour and was about two to three feet across the centreline during the overtaking, the Court was told. A Mr Gilbert said Nfrs McMillan wished to apologise for the incident. The car in front of her had pulled well over to the left to allow her to pass. She had never offended in any way before. She was fined $35, with costs $5, on the careless driving charge; and $2O, costs $5, on the speeding offence.
