Colour TV date
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Dec. 7. The chairman of the Broadcasting Authority (Mr R. T. Peacock) said toddy that from information which had come to the notice of the authority, it appeared that some attempts were being made to promote sales of colour television receivers by inferring that programmes in colour would be transmitted early next year. The authority said in a statement today that the present target date for the beginning of transmission of programmes in colour is October 31, 1973, and initially it is expected that colour transmissions will be limited to the areas served directly, by the main transmitters at Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, and possibly some further areas served by translators. From there, there will be progressive development to all other areas of New Zealand.
