Baron Air shows dash

Baron Air showed racewinning dash at Riccarton yesterday in his final gallop for the Hororata Racing Club’s Sandown Hack Handicap. He was going strongly in the hands of D. Reed two lehgths clear of the two-year-old, Gay Angel (R. McCann), finishing half a mile in 50 2-ssec. Galloping was done about 35ft out on the course proper, which had been deadened by rain earlier in the week.

Baron Air’s trial compared more than favourably with the best shown by open sprinters. Earlier, Jury (A. Eastwood) recorded 51sec. He had Entourage (G. Mein) fori a companion for the final three furlongs.

Baltic Blue (Mein) and Sudden Change (Eastwood) recorded 52 2-ssec. His Bestone (Reed) led Countess Mellay (L. Molloy) after running half a mile in 52 l-ssec. Regal Ration (M. Skelton) and Surge Again (D. Sanderson), which will represent D. J. Thistoll's stable in the open sprint at the Hororata meeting, were paired for six furlongs. They recorded 1.19 3-5 sec. and ran the last half mile in 53 2-ssec. Seaside Story (Reed) also returned Imin 19 3-ssec in beating Mellie (R. McCann) from the six furlongs by three lengths. She ran her last half mile in 52 l-ssec.

Ribaldo (Mein) and Donnybrook Fair (R. McCann) were at speed from near the mile and ran their last half in 53 2 ssec. I

Skelton expects to ride Dhow in the Hororata Cup at 7-10, or 21b overweight. Bun Tuck (P Smith) led Rebel Lad (Grant) by two lengths finishing seven furlongs in Imin 40sec, the last half mile in 50 l-ssec. Bun Tuck looks bright and solid for his step up to a middle distance in the Hororata Cup. Foreign Aid (Moir) ran seven furlongs In Imin 32 3-ssec, finishing behind the more lightlyburdened Vexed (P. Thistoll), Royal Grace (Cohen), and Satlnw'ootf (Crutchley). which started near the six furlongs
